Mandy returns to the Richard & Karen Carpenter Performing Arts Center for the third time as she opens the venue’s intimate Cabaret Series on Oct. 2-3 performing jazz and blues standards as well as original music. Her upcoming album, “Nice to Meet You,” is set to be released in late November.
“It’s just always a lot of fun, and there are stories mixed in throughout the night,” she said a few days before the Cabaret Series show, which offers more intimate performances while the audience sits at tables on the theater stage.
Harvey talked with a Southern California News Group reporter via Facetime, reading lips throughout the 15-minute interview because the captions on her phone’s translation app weren’t working.
She will have a translator on stage at the Carpenter Center, so she can interact with the audience during the intimate show.
“I love being that close (to the audience). The whole reason people enjoy music is because you go on a journey together and there’s a lot of back and forth. You can really feel the energy in the room,” she said of the upcoming show.
